Summary
The Institutional Support Assistant (ISA) is a student employee position. The ISA will offer general building and hospitality support as needed, including enthusiastic front desk reception (opening/closing), library assistance, facility support, and classroom setup and breakdown during regularly scheduled weekday shifts and event support (primarily weekends), as needed.
We are actively seeking candidates to join a pool of ISA’s working regularly scheduled morning shifts (07:45 – noon), occasional afternoon or evening shifts , event support, and projects. This position is ideal for those that enjoy hospitality and seeking part-time employment that works well for student work/life balance.
Essential Functions
The ISA is responsible to:
- Assist in daily building support and hospitality: front desk reception, coffee, cleaning, media and A/V support for classrooms and events, classroom/event setup, and breakdown, etc.
- Manage building security through monitoring front door access and maintaining a sense of awareness. Open and close the building independently for events and classes. During a closing shift, walk through the building to assure security and to confirm that machinery and lights are turned off.
- Direct incoming phone calls and inquiries at the front desk.
- Provide library support assistance including:
- Circulation services such as loaning, returning, renewing, and mailing library materials using CyberTools, as well as re-shelving materials to their proper location.
- Collect materials from book drops, study carrels, and carts, and return materials or indicate in-library use in CyberTools as appropriate.
- Assist library users with locating and using materials and databases, referring them to other library staff as appropriate.
- Shelf read and shift the library collection as needed.
- Straighten and disinfect surfaces and study areas in the library.
- Provide assistance with technology and equipment as needed including laptop check-out, printers, and copiers.
- Complete clerical projects for other departments as assigned.
- Assist as directed with facility projects and maintenance.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Must be a Seattle School student, eligibility for Federal Work-Study funding preferred.
- Understands the balance of functioning as a student and employee at the same institution, and complies with all confidentiality and regulatory requirements.
- Available and willing to work variable shifts, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to exert a friendly yet assertive demeanor in high-stress situations.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Expert organization, attention to detail, and time management skills.
- Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively as a team player and self-starter in a changing environment
- First Aid certification is a plus.
- Familiarity and appreciation for the mission and values of The Seattle School.
Compensation & Benefits
$19.97 per hour (FICA tax exempt when enrolled in classes). When you work at the school you attend, student employees are exempt from FICA taxes (7.65%) when classes are in session. Accordingly, the effective hourly rate is actually $21.63 per hour (for comparison to outside employment).
