Today’s Faculty Friday interview is with Dr. Paul Hoard, Assistant Professor of Counseling Psychology.

Dr. Paul Hoard is a licensed counselor, clinical supervisor, and psychoanalytic psychotherapist who holds a doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from Regent University. A “third culture kid,” he was raised in Ankara, Turkey and has provided mental health counseling and clinical supervision in the United States, Ukraine, and Turkey. His research and scholarly work primarily focuses on the intersection of perpetration trauma, sexuality, white-body supremacy, and adolescent mental health.

Prior to joining the faculty at The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology, Dr. Hoard taught at MidAmerica Nazarene University in the Master of Arts in Counseling program. He has also taught courses overseas at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey.

Dr. Hoard will teach courses focused on human growth and development, human sexuality, helping relationships, and social and cultural foundations.

What have you been listening to lately?

Not much. I have a few random playlists that I cycle through depending on my mood.

What research do you find yourself drawn to at the moment?

I am currently focused on the various intersections of moral injury, white body supremacy, culture, sexually abusive behavior, and perpetration trauma. I’ve been recently interested in looking into Lacanian theory and its application in different fields, including board games and play.
