Dr. Dwight Friesen (Associate Professor of Practical Theology), Tim Soerens, and Paul Sparks, authors of the recently released book The New Parish and co-facilitators of the Leadership in the New Parish Certificate program at The Seattle School, are on the road promoting their new book and speaking on the topic of parish renewal around the US and Canada. Their tour will continue throughout the summer and fall and will finish with the new Inhabit UK Conference this October in Birmingham, UK.

At each stop, Dwight, Tim, and Paul are facilitating one-day charrettes and evening salons hosted by parishes, communities, and institutions on “Reimagining your life, your church, and your neighborhood.” Recent stops have been Bellingham, Washington; Silverton, Oregon; and various events throughout California including Oakland, Carmel, Los Angeles, Long Beach, San Diego, and Fuller Seminary in Pasadena.

Reporting on the success of the tour so far, Tim Soerens said, “From the tranquil small town of Silverton to the bustle of East Oakland, from seeing old friends in Carmel to meeting new ones in Long Beach, this New Parish Book Tour has been gift after gift. Ordinary heroes are knitting a fabric of care everywhere we go. I’m brimming with gratitude that this book is helping to spark new friendships and imagination.”

For the next leg of the tour, Dwight, Tim, and Paul will be heading to Canada. Later in June, Tim will join a robust lineup of speakers and change-makers at the Wild Goose Festival in Hot Springs, NC. Learn more about the Wild Goose Festival and Tim’s session »
