Winston Gooden, PhD

Dr. Gooden joined the board of the Seattle School of Theology & Psychology in 2021 after retiring from Fuller theological Seminary, where he served as professor and dean for many years. He lives in Washington DC with wife Kumea Shorter-Gooden, a clinical psychologist and diversity consultant.

Dr. Gooden received the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from Yale Divinity School and the Ph.D. in Clinical/Community Psychology from Yale University. His research and publications have centered on human development during adulthood, intimacy in marital relationships and leadership. He has published chapters and journal articles in the areas of adult development, adult attachment, intimacy, faith and leadership and taught extensively in the above areas as well as in the area of psychotherapy and human healing.

An ordained AME Zion minister, Dr. Gooden is active in his denomination and in the local church. He regularly conducts seminars and workshops for pastors and lay-leaders dealing with issues of leadership and congregational conflicts.

He is a licensed psychologist in California and Washington DC and maintains a small clinical practice.
