Accommodations
Disability Accommodations
Belonging is foundational to the student experience at The Seattle School. We are committed to making sure every member of our learning community has the support and resources needed to fully engage and thrive. Guided by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504, we offer reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities, so you can participate in every aspect of your educational journey. You can access our full policy on disability accommodations in the Student Handbook.
Who Qualifies for Accommodations?
Disabilities come in many forms—seen and unseen, temporary or ongoing. You may be eligible for support if you’re managing:
- Medical and health conditions (short or long-term)
- Chronic illness or pain
- Mental health needs
- Physical or mobility disabilities
- Cognitive and learning differences (such as dyslexia or ADHD)
- Pregnancy-related conditions
- Recovery from injuries or surgeries
- Effects of treatments or medications
Not sure if you qualify? You’re always welcome to ask. Our team is here to listen, answer questions, and guide you through your options.
How to Request Accommodations
We encourage you to start this process as early as possible, ideally at least four weeks before your first academic term. However, you can reach out at any time—your needs matter, no matter where you are in your program.

Accommodation Planning & Examples
We tailor every accommodation plan to the student. Accommodations might include:
- Additional time for tests or assignments
- Quiet or private spaces for exams
- Early access to in-class written materials
- Recordings of non-lab classes
- Flexible participation or assignment options
- Alternative formats for materials and exams
- Captioning and assistive technology
- Adaptive furniture or seating
- Access to medication storage on campus
- Support with calendar organization and assignment planning
Your plan can change as your needs do—our priority is to adapt as your situation shifts.
Documentation & Confidentiality
We require documentation from a qualified healthcare or learning assessment professional describing how your disability affects you academically and the support you need. If you don’t have current documentation, don’t let that delay your conversation with us—we’ll work with you to gather what’s needed. All healthcare information is kept private and confidential.
Support Beyond the Classroom
Whole-person care is essential to our community. In addition to classroom accommodations, we offer:
- Guidance around requesting accommodations in internships or workplace settings
- Dietary accommodations for campus events
- Tech support for assistive tools, like screen readers
- Peer community through our Access student group
- Opportunities for connection and support with alumni
