There is a lot of excitement around our campus these days. Graduation is approaching and spring is drying out our city. But the main buzz right now is the big news - The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology will be changing its name!
This may be a surprising announcement, but the faculty, staff, students and alumni have been in conversation about the possibility of changing our name for the past few years. In November, the Board of Trustees voted to begin the renaming process for The Seattle School. This April, the Board with decide upon the final name and reveal it to our community during a special open house event on April 28th. Our new name will go into effect mid-August as we spend the summer working through the transition. Come August we will be excited to welcome our new incoming class—the first to study with us under our new name!
Our name change is an opportunity for us to embrace the many offering of The Seattle School. We are a different kind of graduate school - we passionately teach master-level degrees to students in Seattle, we travel across the nation offering transformation through stories through our conferences, and we are beginning to embark on new endeavors through certificate programs, continuing education units and alumni externships. As we continue to grow and mature, our new name will help us to further step into who we are and further clarify what we do.
A name change is a complex transition for any institution so we want to be sure that you are well-informed. Beyond changing our name and revamping our brand a bit, the mission and purpose of The Seattle School will remain the same. We are still faithful to our mission of training people to be competent in the study of text, soul, and culture in order to serve God and neighbor through transforming relationships. We are still commitment to facing the beauty and brokenness of our stories in order to be able to truly work toward restoration in the stories and hearts of others. We are still devoted to the integration of theology, psychology and culture and invite students to wholeheartedly live into the particularity of their unique callings.
There will undoubtedly be questions or concerns about this transition - please do not hesitate to contact me. I will write again with the official announcement of our new name after the event on April 28th!
Warmly,
Nicole Greenwald
