Joy Hilliker is a third-year student in the MA in Counseling Psychology program at The Seattle School. She is married with two girls, Hannah (11) and Summer (9), and her family lives in West Seattle, where they enjoy kayaking and long walks with their dog Daisy. Joy was raised by an artist within a house full of brushes, paints, canvases, and smells of turpentine. She is currently developing a mixed media, abstract style of art and is intrigued by the revelatory nature of the creative process in terms of what it discloses about what lies beneath our presentation. Joy believes that art and music can often dislodge things that the barriers of language cannot. Her hobbies are reading, traveling, hiking, conversations of depth, and attempting to be the most attuned parent of which she is currently capable.
